Unsponsored Laboratory Internship

Moss Landing, CA

A central pillar of Sunflower Star Laboratory’s mission is community engagement, so we are excited to partner with students to create unique internship opportunities. Depending on intern skill and time commitment, staff availability, and laboratory needs, lab interns will have the opportunity to design or take the lead on experiments, participate in publication, and receive 1:1 career mentoring from our experienced staff. We will work together on a plan, timeline, relevant project, and deliverables.

Sunflower Star Lab will process paperwork and correspond with third parties as needed to help an intern receive school credit or outside funding. Students should provide those requirements as part of discussions of their internship and take full responsibility for ensuring they are delivered on time.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Intern must be 18 or older on start date

  • 200 hours minimum time commitment (roughly 16 hours/week for 3 months, 8 hours/week for 6 months).

  • Recent (within 1 year) or extensive (2+ years) experience working in a marine laboratory or aquaculture facility. If you do not already have relevant experience, you may start as a lab volunteer with a goal to become an intern after at least 6 months volunteering
